Abstract:

This dataset was created to provide a geospatial overlay of the recent update of the Geologic Map of Guam (2008) by Siegrist, H.G. and Reagan, M.K. The map was originally published in 2008 as a 1:50,000-scale hard-copy map and in digital format as PDFs consisting of nine 1:24,000-scale and one 1:50,000-scale (the latter was used for this dataset).

Purpose:

To provide a georectified image of the 1:50,000-scale Geology of Guam map (updated in 2008).

Data_Set_Credit:

H.G. Siegrist, Jr and Mark K. Reagan. Additional contributions to the map in form of field interpretations were made by Richard H. Randall and John W. Jenson. Digital cartography in Adobe Illustrator by Linda Masonic (USGS). Geographic Information System (GIS) database by Maria Kottermair, University of Guam (WERI).

Process_Description:

The Geologic Map of Guam (1:50,000) in PDF-format was exported to TIFF in Adobe Photoshop. The map was then imported to ArcMap and georeferenced using over 40 ground control points (GCPs). A first order polynomial (affine) transformation was used to rectify the image.
